For many years, CORBA has organized a regular Monday Night Group Ride at Lowes Creek County Park.
The ride is open to anyone that wants to join us, whether a member of CORBA or not, and whether an experienced rider or not.
However, there still seems to be many people who are nervous about joining us, for a variety of reasons.
Here are some of the more common worries and the answers:
Q: Am I a good enough mountain biker?
A: Yes.
Q: Will they go too fast for me?
A: No.
Q: Will they go on some of the trails I am not comfortable on?
A: No
Q: Will I have a good enough bike?
A: Yes.
Q: Will I know anyone?
A: Maybe, but if you don’t, you soon will.
Q: Will they welcome me?
A: Yes.
Q: Will they ignore me and make me feel like I don’t belong?
A: No.
Q: Will they leave me behind so that I become lost out there?
A: No.
Q: Are kids welcome?
A: Yes, but if they are under 16, we do ask that a parent/guardian ride with them. We absolutely welcome kids on the group ride, but we are not a babysitting operation and we can’t ask our volunteers to personally take charge of your kids.
I get it. I had the very same concerns when I was first considering (and avoiding) going to the group rides.
But let me assure you that these rides are intended to be a social gathering, simply to get more people out to enjoy the trails that we all love. We absolutely encourage and welcome new riders to join the group ride.
As we gather for the ride, we determine the approximate experience level of all attending and then divide up into groups that will accommodate everyone, ranging from the very experienced, fast riders to the brand new, never been out on the trails, first-time riders…and everything in between.
So, please consider this a personal invitation to come out and join us for our regular Monday Night Group Rides. Follow our Facebook page for up to date information on each week’s ride.
