Hickory Ridge Trailhead
Friends of Hickory Ridge Trails (a 501c3 non-profit) collaborated over the years with CORBA for the development of 20 miles of single-track trails in this amazing swath of Chippewa County Forest, which also includes an impeccably groomed ski trail system with 17 miles of groomed surface. In the winter, the single-track is groomed for 13 miles of fat biking trails, and gravel riding opportunities are around the forest as well. Truly an incredible year-round destination.
In 2022, Friends of Hickory Ridge Trails began plans and fundraising for dramatic improvement of their trailhead. They completed Phase One in 2024, raising $200,000 – half through private funds and half through a grant – to complete the parking lot, picnic shelter, and adding power and light.
Phase Two is now in progress, raising another $200,000 through both private funds and applying for grants, which will include a warming cabin adjacent to the shelter, new grooming equipment, and a storage shed for it.
Initial development of the Hickory Ridge Nordic ski and mountain bike trails began in 1989 by ski enthusiasts and strong support from the Chippewa County Forest and Parks Department, and has only grown over the last 30 plus years with continuing support of Chippewa County and thousands of volunteer hours. Today Hickory Ridge Trail offers users an incredible opportunity to explore the rolling terrain along kettle lakes in the Chippewa County Forest.
