The Red Flint Firecracker is going hybrid for 2021. Participants will have the option once again to choose their day, time, events, and weather over the 10 day event. BUT for 2021, there will be an in-person option on Saturday, July 3rd for the mountain bike and trail run races!
There will be three activities to choose from (Mountain Bike Race, Trail Run Race, and Road Ride), and each of those will have a number of options. You can do one event, do all of the events, or anything in between. You can also create your own off-site (not eligible for cash awards) if you cannot get to Eau Claire.
Red Flint Rock and Stone is once again providing Visa gift cards for the winners in the mountain bike and trail run races,.
We will also a need for volunteers for course setup, take down, and daily course checks for both the run and bike portions at Lowes Creek. Volunteers will also be needed for the “in-person” portion of the event on Saturday, July 3rd. VOLUNTEER SIGN UP.
Events and Options
In Person Add On
On Saturday, July 3rd there will be an in-person portion of the Firecracker for 2021. This will include trail run and mountain bike options. When you register you will have the option to pick whether or not you want to do the in-person in addition to the virtual options. There will be an $5 additional “donation” for the in-person event to cover racer fees and venue costs.
We will set up an awesome 5K course on the single-track trails of Lowes Creek County Park. You can choose to enter into the categories of 1, 2, 3, or 4 laps of the course. $50 VISA card prizes will be awarded to the overall winners (M/F) in each category. Because it would be possible for one person to run every category and sweep the winnings, we are limiting winners to one category only (but feel free to run the other categories for fun).
MTB Race :
We will set up a 7 mile course similar to our traditional “Sport” lap course from previous Firecracker races. You can choose to enter into the categories of 1, 2, 3, or 4 laps of the course. $50 VISA card prizes will be awarded to the overall winners (M/F) in each category. Because it would be possible for one person to ride every category and sweep the winnings, we are limiting winners to one category only (but feel free to ride the other categories for fun).
MTB Race (Short Course Option):
The short course option for those who want to participate but are not comfortable riding a number of the more challenging sections of the main course. The short course will simply follow the trail run 5K course. Please note that we do not want the more experienced riders taking this option. This is NOT a short, sprint course for advanced riders and is not eligible for the Visa card awards.
Over the Top :
Pick your poison: road ride, trail run, or mountain bike. Ride as long and as far as you choose in ONE EFFORT. Reasonable “self aid station” stops between laps are allowed, but to ensure this is “in one effort”, please abide by the rule of no aid stops longer than 15 minutes. $50 VISA card prizes will be awarded to the overall winners (M/F) in this category. Because it would be possible for one person to ride every category and sweep the winnings, we are limiting winners to one category only (but feel free to ride the other categories for fun).
Road Ride :
Choose between a 12, 25, 45, 65, or 100 mile route. Ride at your own pace at the time of your choosing (within the specified dates), and enter your participation details where instructed and you will get credit for completion of the event and be eligible for the door prize drawings. We will provide the course maps for you to print out.
Furry Friends Walk:
Do you and your dog enjoy exploring the woods and trails at Lowes Creek County Park? Then the event for you is to take your furry friend(s) out for a walk and record your time and distance (if you know it). This is a non-competitive event and you will be eligible for door prizes.

When you register, there is no need to choose your event, aside from choosing the right ticket if you plan to do the in-person option. You will simply register once, and you can participate in any or all of the events. You will participate at your convenience during the 10 day period between June 25 and July 4. Plus you have the option of racing in person on Saturday, July 3rd if you choose that option.
Registration fees will be by donation*…you choose the level that you would like to, and are able to, give, keeping in mind that the Red Flint Firecracker is CORBA’s main fundraising event of the year.
We are asking our trails community to be as generous as they can be for the trails that we all love to use. But we also understand that this virus and the resulting disruptions has hit some of us harder than others, so if things are tight, we still want to provide you with the opportunity to participate in the fun!
When you submit your registration, you will receive a confirmation email with more information within about an hour (usually much sooner). If you don’t see it, please check your spam folders and if you still don’t see it, let us know and we’ll get it to you.
