Snowshoe & Fat Bike & Ski Races
Important Event Update: CORBA has been watching the weather and based upon the sub-zero highs predicted over the weekend we are electing to push the Powder Keg once again to Wednesday, February 17th – Wednesday, February 24th. Otherwise, everything will remain the same so help us spread the word! One of our biggest concerns is setting up the course in this dangerous cold. It’s one thing to go out and ski, snowshoe, or bike for an hour, but something different to spend 4-5 hours out there marking a course, and we’re guessing most participants would sit out the weekend anyway and wait for the warmer temps.
February 17-24, 2021

Events and Options (Already signed up? Racer FAQ)
We will set up 5K and 10K courses similar to the 2022 US Snowshoe National course. You can choose your distance or you can do both as individual events. Course information will be available as we get closer to the event dates.
We will set up the course which will include groomed trails at Lowes Creek County Park. You can choose to enter into the categories of 1 or 2 laps. Tires must be 3.5” or larger. Course information will be available as we get closer to the event dates.
Cross Country Ski
We will set up a ski course that will allow you to either do skate skiing or classic. You can choose to do 1 or 2 laps of the course. Course information (approximately 5K) will be available as we get closer to the event dates.
Do it all. This can be in any order and includes one lap of each that you choose. Results will be tallied separately for those that do the 5K versus the 10K snowshoe portion. To be eligible for an award in this category the goal is to complete all three in one effort but don’t let that stop you from trying all three anyway!
In all cases, please remember that none of the trails are closed to the public so be aware of others out there as you are snowshoeing, fat biking, and skiing.
Do you live outside of Eau Claire or otherwise not find yourself anywhere near Lowes Creek during the time of the Powder Keg? Never fear, as long as you find some snow you can participate anywhere. This is a non-competitive option but you will be able to log your results. Snowshoe, Fat Bike, or x-country ski.
We will be looking for volunteers to help with course setup, take down, and to do daily checks of all the courses to ensure the marking is good to go. Volunteer Sign Up.
When you register, there is no need to choose your event. You will simply register once, and you can participate in any or all of the events. You will participate at your convenience during the period between February 17th – 24th.
Registration fees will be by donation…you choose the level that you would like to, and are able to, give, keeping in mind that CORBA uses our events as our primary fundraisers to support the ten trail systems.
We are asking our trails community to be as generous as they can be for the trails that we all love to use. But we also understand that this virus and the resulting disruptions has hit some of us harder than others, so if things are tight, we still want to provide you with the opportunity to participate in the fun!
2021 Powder Keg swag is available based on your choice of donation level. Free tickets do not include any swag, but you are eligible for race winner awards. A $20.00 donation will provide you a choice between the Powder Keg beanie or the Powder Keg fleece neck gaiter. A donation of $35,00 or more will provide you with both the beanie and the neck gaiter.
As always, CORBA cannot provide great events like the Powder Keg without our generous sponsors. Please take notice of this year’s 2021 Powder Keg sponsors and think of them whenever you need the products or services they offer:
